Owner: Brad Hill

Brads adventure with this car started when he traded a Fox Coupe race car that he had for this car and some cash. He had gone too far with the coupe and it was a weekend warrior that sat on a trailer....he wanted something he could cruise in. When Brad got this car it had Weld Pro Stars on it which just didn't fit the car for him....His first set of wheels were traditional Cobra R's but soon after getting them it just looked too plain for him so he opted for the 10th anniversary Cobra wheels along with a new set of Cobra headlights and clear corners. We also installed a Bullitt 13" front brake kit.

Next Brad wanted a hood...so we installed a Cowl induction hood from HO Fibertrends

Brad always wanting to change things fell in love with the deep dish Bullitt wheels so the Cobra wheels were sold in favor of these. Brad had a serious need for more power so we started planning the build for a new engine. He had already purchased a single Turbo kit from HP....everything looked good but we would later find out how many shortcomings the HP Turbo kit would have when it came to installation.

Before removing the original engine we mocked up the turbo kit...this way we could go ahead and repaint the engine compartment and not have to make any modifications later after it was painted. The Instructions provided with the HP kit were a complete Joke!!! The booklet might have been 6 pages with no pictures and really no useable information.

Brad talked us out of a Mexican block that we had stashed away, we knew the stock production 5.0L block would not stand up to the kind of power he wanted to make. Here the block is fresh from the machine shop.

An Eagle Forged Steel crank was chosen for a 331 stroker.

Eagle H beam rods were chosen for the combo as well.

Probe was chosen for our pistons.

Brad scored a deal close to Christmas on a set of TEA stage 3 ported Trick Flow heads....the project is starting to snowball as this is more than he had originally planned as far as a cylinder head....but more power is better...right?

Meanwhile the engine compartment has been refinished. We welded up any and all unnecessary holes...well over 100 of them and we will be hiding the wiring as much as possible to clean things up.

AJE was chosen for the K member.

We assembled the engine and used a PRC main support girdle to add even more strength to the Mexican block.

With the short block done we can now install the head studs and heads.

The Older block will not accept the newer style roller lifters so we went with the Crane linkbar style roller lifters and a Ford Racing F303 camshaft.

Here we have installed the engine and are setting everything up.

We chose an AFCO radiator to handle the cooling needs....this presented one of the many problems we had with the HP kit...the slightly thicker radiator upper outlet ran right into the turbocharger....even the stock one looked like it would have been a tight fit. We ended up modifying the radiator by fabricating an elbow out of aluminum tubing and welding it in place...that did the trick. One other problem we ran into is that there is NO WAY you can run the factory A/C lines with this turbo kit...Brad had been promised over and over by HP that they would be making lines and would send him a set....over 2 years passed since he first bought the kit and he has never seen those promised lines....so this will be an area we will have to figure something out for later.
