Tim Wells 1964 1/2 Mustang Coupe

Tim brought us this car for body and paint restoration. The car is an original D code Coupe that is very solid but has had it's bumps and bruises during it's life.

In the past someone has replaced this quarter panel and they did a pretty good job with it.

This quarter panel was previously just packed full of body filler and had the dents pulled out with a slide hammer leaving holes.

This is an example of a bad repair attempt....likely done very long ago from the brazed piece of metal. There is no patch panel replacement for this so we will have to cut it out and fabricate our own panel.

we cut out the original piece...with all the cracks there was no welding it back up, New metal was in order here.

Here is our finished repair, all metal and ready for primer.

There rear of the car had been hit before so we removed the panel to repair it and reinstall with the lower quarter patch panel.

This is the panel we removed that was originally bent from an accident, the kidney bean shaped indentation on the right had to be reformed with old fashioned metal working. This panel is not available by itself so we elected to repair and reinstall it.

Here is our rear panel reinstalled along with a new lower quarter patch. A new taillight panel is next to complete the rear repair.

Here is the old taillight panel....dented from accident damage it's just not worth trying to repair when a good quality replacement panel made from Ford Tooling is available.
