1964 Mercury Marauder

This is our 1964 Mercury Marauder project. This was a find....we were dropping off a car for a customer and spotted a Torino body sitting out in a field....when we turned around this was sitting behind a garage and had been there for some time. The wheels started turning and we struck a deal and brought her home.

The original 390 sits under the hood....a new starter, battery cables and pour gas into the carb and she fired up and idled perfectly!! Amazing considering it had to be sitting more than 20 years!

There were some parts missing and the car was apart seemingly for paint that never materialized. The car is remarkably solid.

We were missing some important parts like the bumpers, brake booster(important because a new one is $500!!!) and other small stuff...so I turned to Ebay and found this car listed for sale near Atlanta, GA....the car had a high reserve and did not sell....I contacted the owner after the auction and we struck a deal.

Another bonus is that the frame is the same so we have a spare frame to set up for the future drivetrain and suspension without tearing the other car apart. This will be important when we need measurements of stock ride height for the new suspension.

Our plan?? To take the complete engine, transmission and rear independent suspension from this '96 Lincoln Mark VIII and install it into the Marauder!

For now we got the front bumper back on and swapped out the wheels for something just a little better. This also gives us a good point to measure stock ride height so we can plan our lowered stance.

Here we have the independent rear suspension mocked up in place under the extra frame...now we just have to fabricate the mounts.
